The Glyptos Jacket

Inspired by ancient greek techniques of carving stone, called “Glyptography” I set out to combine elements of both garment construction with themes of both chiselling and erasure to create a high fashion work jacket with a back design imbedded into the actual fabric in a seamless manner

To do, I layered squares of different colored canvas on top of each other, almost like a “lasagna”, which was then inserted between the main inner and outer panels of my jacket pattern. To create the design I then “carved” away the fabric with various tools, such as scalpels, heat engravers and seam rippers. This was in an effort to create an applique esc design flush and within the garment, rather than collaged on top.

Also featured within is double layered sleeves, functional metal snap breast pockets, and a brass YKK zipper
