Hope For Ukraine Charity T-Shirt Project

Awarded Nationally by UNICEF as a Youth Project Organizer

Hope for Ukraine Charity Shirt Project

My father was born in Odessa, Ukraine in the early 60s, and immigrated to America when he was around 20 years old. Therefore, when the recent war broke out in Ukraine a couple years ago, I knew I had to try and use my experience and platform within the fashion sphere to do something to help…

I came up with the idea to create a charity shirt design that not only displayed my heritage, but was also stylish and wearable, unlike many fundraising shirts I’d seen before.

The main motif I drew for the shirt is a Nightingale, the national bird of Ukraine. This bird symbolizes compassion, connection and most importantly, hope, to Ukrainians all around the world during a time of sorrow and violence. The nightingale is colored with the blue and yellow found on our flag and features pattern details found on traditional slavic garments throghout. Next to the bird, the shirt reads Hope for Ukraine, a simple yet powerful tagline to show allegiance and support.

At the end of the fundraiser, I sold enough shirts to donate close to 15,000$ to relief funds all around Ukraine, including one that worked on rebuilding my Dad’s hometown, being given the national youth project organizer award by UNICEF and being featured in Publications “The Good Magazine” and “The Piper”
